Kansas bans Salvia

Salvia is a naturally occurring hallucinogenic drug; legislators in 20 states across the US want to see Salvia banned.

The rationale behind the fervor to see Salvia banned may come from the discovery that it may have played a part in the suicide of a Delaware. The teen’s parents blame the drug for their son’s premature death and they too want to see Salvia banned. Predictably the Internet may have had a role in the demonizing of Salvia as it shows videos of some users engaging in rather wild and erratic behavior after taking it. Some people act wildly and erratic when they get behind the wheel of their car and legislators show no signs of banning it (even though cars are far more dangerous than Salvia).

Kansas has joined the ranks of states that want to see Salvia banned; Kansas governor Kathleen Sebelius has signed the law.

Salvia is still legal under US Federal drug law and is, furthermore, still widely available though many Internet sites that offer the plant and its more potent potentatiated extract. Drug users say that smoking or chewing Salvia leaves cause them to hallucinate and have outer body experiences, amongst other effects. Salvia is the most potent naturally occurring hallucinogenic.
