Ares Lite for reduced footprint
The reasons for the popularity of Ares Lite are interesting. Firstly it was a really good piece of software that did the job of providing a file sharing program that used very little computer resources. Secondly it was subject to the strange and unfounded rumor that it was the only file sharing application that wouldn’t infect your computer with evil spyware.
Of course this rumor was just a rumor and then, like today, there are plenty of great filesharing apps that don’t have anything to do with malware (equally there are still some versions that dabble: Ares Destiny is packaged with Dealio).
The need for reduced resource footprint has been largely obliterated by the improvement in hardware computing power and the decrease in its price. The advantages of Ares Lite are slowing looking rather flimsy when compared to the losses incurred by the simpler system. Moving to something a little more powerful like Ares Ultra or Ares Ultimate might be a sensible move.
There was – and is – nothing inherently wrong with Ares Lite, and it did a great job in its own way. Now though Ares Lite is destined to become the victim of the success that it so brilliantly helped to create.
